What does your job involve?
I help companies be more neuroinclusive through consulting and training. I was a design engineer for 6 years previously.
Degree/apprenticeship or route to current job:
Chemistry BSc, PGCE, Mechanical Engineering MSc.
What were your challenges in school?
Not talking at all times was tough – I got quite a few detentions for that one. Also, remembering what lesson I had next was a tough.
What strategies/assistive technology do you use to help you in your work?
Touch screen laptop, Keep my glasses on windowsills when not wearing (then I can walk round looking at windowsills to find) , Write everything down as I think it.
What ND skills have allowed you to succeed (or progress) in your STEMM career?
Creativity, tenacity, analytical skills.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Yes, you aren’t the same as everyone else, but that is ok – embrace it rather than pretending to be something you are not – that is exhausting.
